Why Imaginative Rebels should not become Copywriters?
Speaking from experience as a CONTENT WRITER:
If you are someone who loves to write, be it about your thoughts and feelings, stories, concepts, or anything that you do to entertain yourself, do not become a COPY-WRITER or a CONTENT WRITER.
A person with a creative mind who loves to write is all about heart, feelings, connectivity to the surroundings and imagination, and sometimes empathy. That comes naturally, from the deepest corners of your subconscious.
If you are writing, that means you are already rebelling and thinking of the world as it could be, rather than what it is. You don’t like to do what you are told to do. You just do whatever you think you wanna do. If you are told to do, WHAT YOU LOVE, but ACCORDING TO THE RULES SOMEONE ELSE SETS FOR YOU, that becomes a paradox. Something you love is turned into something you are forced to do. Trust me, there is nothing worse than that.
Also, there is a thing about creativity. Your craft creativity is special because it’s original, and it is purely what you feel. Only you know how you feel, and only you know what you want to say. When you practice art, craft, or creativity keeping how the market will feel about it, that loses the touch of your original thought are rather becomes a SUPPLY TO WHAT THE MARKET DEMANDS. And in the market, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, not the creator, nor the creativity.
In my own experience, as a kid, my teacher would tell me to memorize a line from a book. I would read the whole book, skipping that very line of what the teacher told me to do. I used to love to write. But the way someone tells me to write something for them, I get panic attacks.
Creativity is supposed to be original, pure, untouched, and random. It comes in a natural flow. But the market wants you to follow the trends. Creativity requires to be based on imagination, but the market is based on CUSTOMER’S OPINION.
However, if you don’t see yourself as an imaginative or creative writer, and take no interest in philosophy, and rather in science and business, it will be very easy to learn to be a content writer or a copywriter and you can ace it. If your profession and hobby don’t collide in the market, you should definitely go for it. Because if you love science, and for clients, you only have to write product descriptions, that will be no problem for you. One thing is for your own happiness, the other thing is for earning and making a living.
When your imagination and client expectations collide, on a repeat, you will be the most exhausted person in the world. Either you will have to give up your imagination or lose the market.
But, if you are creative, you don’t even agree with the world as it is, you want something else, and I don’t feel you will ever give up your imagination. That is only right.
